My name is Humberto Martinez Jr. and I am a graduate of Wayne State University. I graduated in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a 3.4 GPA on a scale of 4.0. During my collegiate years I gained experience in many facets of journalism through my coursework, internships and time writing for the student newspaper.

The reason for me writing to you is to formally apply for the sports writer position at CBS Radio. I was made aware of this position by searching through the career website Indeed.com. From there, I was directed to the CBS Radio Careers page and began the application for this position. This position at CBS Radio is a perfect opportunity for me to continue my career as a journalist.

My coursework in the journalism department at Wayne State has provided me with the understanding of multiple platforms in journalism. Having covered the beat for multiple sports and serving as the Lead Sports Correspondent for Wayne State’s student publication, The South End, I am familiar with reporting for writing for different sports. An internship at Detroit PAL allowed me to strengthen those skills and allowed for greater experience in feature writing. Also, my time GrossePointeToday.com provided me with important experience in reporting and writing news stories. And writing for The Yellow Wall provided me with valuable opportunities to write feature and profile stories.

This academic and professional history has helped me develop my skills and knowledge of journalism, and has provided me with a strong journalistic base. I have worked on several projects at a time, written about a wide range of topics and have worked on deadline, all of which have made me a better and more efficient journalist.   

And because of my experience, coupled with my lifelong passion for sports, I believe that I am extremely suited for the sports writer position at CBS Radio.
